First Surrey Intl. Hockey Tournament 2008...

Surrey Field Hockey Club and the Surrey Lions are organizing the First Annual Surrey Cup International Hockey Tournament, which is being held at the Tamanawis Park in City of Surrey on July 25th - 27th 2008.

We welcome all teams to participate in this tournament, as it promises to be a great event in the world of Field Hockey in this little corner of the globe. A number of reputed teams from all over North America have already expressed their deep interest. Teams from Dallas, Phoenix, Freemont, New York, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Jose & Houston have already committed to participate in the tournament. A number of top B.C. teams are looking forward to face-off with the non-local teams to showcase their Hockey skills.

Surrey Field Hockey Club has agreed to pay for the stay of any teams that are outside of B.C. Rooms will be reserved for teams in a luxurious 5 Star hotel close to the venues. The club will be providing transportation to the teams between the hotel and the venues.Breakfast and lunch will also be served to all the teams that are out of town.

The tournament is being held in the following three categories of gameplay;

• Mens Open

• Womens Open

• Mens and Womens mixed Social

A number of dignitaries, former olympians, and other Hockey Greats will be attending the three day event in order to promote this wonderful game. This is expected to be a three day hockey extravaganza, where some great hockey will be at display. Locals have already started calling the tournament a "Hockey Da Mela", and is sure to be a big hit with them. There is no entry fee for the tournament, although a SafePlay Deposit of $500 is required from all teams. It will be returned in its entirety if a team does not get any yellow or red cards. The first two yellow cards earned by any team will not be considered for any fines.For every yellow card after that, a team will be fined $50 from it's deposit. And for any red card, the fine has been set at $100. This is only to encourage a level of fair play and safety of all teams.
